There are times when I look into the night sky and I get to see all the stars, planets and constellations do what they’re supposed to me and that’s leaving me feeling whole, astonished, mysterious, small, alive, aware and human. My visuality and the tool I’m still mastering does not make me a mere "photographer" in this era. With the complexion of my illustrious skin, anything I create will be a part of Black History. It will become a part of my life’s documentations and hopefully I’ll organize it enough to pass it on to the generations-to-be. I desire to control a part of the conversation where I immortalize the truth in real time in a sense that you have no other choice but to either refuse, question or accept what I see. I allow myself to be vulnerable to reality in order to translate my experiences. This is why I do not adhere to the typical definition of photographer because people do not know what it means. I am not here to make you look good, that is your own responsibility. I am here because you decided that you wanted to express your true colors and that I am the one to record your truest self.

Akeem Brandon is a visual artist based in Moreno Valley, CA. His skillset in photography, videography and physical collage art has granted him the ability to travel outside his comfort zone to document polarizing and sensitive moments in time. He had his works curated in museums and art shows across Southern California and has been published for his photographic work on an international scale.
