Are you using your passion to form purpose? Brandon, a Moreno Valley native, takes his own personal journey in the “always moving” state; New York City, the Buckeye state; Ohio and sunshine state known as California. Artists often use photography as a creative outlet to evoke a feeling or a message. While reading Second Nature; readers will often develop a sense of inquisitiveness through photography. As the reader, you often wonder what the photographs mean to you, and what Brandon is trying to convey. It seems evident that Brandon is searching for stillness, redemption and self. I am sure readers will find these concepts both relatable and “felt” throughout the book. Second Nature is the first big project of the artist; this project can encourage readers to be on the same journey as Brandon and look forward to his future endeavors.

Akeem Brandon - Second Nature
(KCM, Moreno Valley)
The destruction of the Black man’s psyche and the drastic changes of his immediate surroundings that it triggers tend to reveal methods and understandings that is too great to put together, minuscule to take apart and dissect, and desensitized enough about inner pain to not bother with care. Committed to the ever-venture of emotional intelligence, Akeem Brandon’s most transparent and unearthing work to date encompasses a daring narrative.
Second Nature is an hypnotic 68 page film study that fluctuates between the intensities of life. From the microcosm of the emotional mind to the macrocosm of decisions you’ve made for self to be, and defining the journey between the transformation. Brandon spent years documenting the variety of routes taken to find peace, understanding and enlightenment spanning across the country. Brandon strives to capture and illustrate intangible emotions on tangible media: via half frame 35mm analogue format that allows Brandon to document the small details of everyday passing life to the large details of just being while living. -
